Jordan is an inspiration to everyone who comes in contact with him, because the greater part of the results he has achieved to date comes from his willingness to keep pushing onwards and upwards.
Many people faced with life-changing injuries have a critical window of opportunity to make change. Despite the initial nerve conductivity tests that were far from positive, Jordan responded favourably to specific stretching and activation exercises that were initially applied his limbs to promote a neuromuscular response. In a matter of months he was picking up and using his phone and lifting 3 kg weights above his head, despite initially not being able to grasp or move objects that weighed 50 grams.
His legs went from lifeless limbs that were wasting away to being able to move pedals on and exercise bike and performing leg press exercises that have significantly increased the muscle mass on his legs in a few short months. Once he was able to elicit the required neuromuscular responses he was able to transfer these skills and movement patterns to self-management practices such as using a wheelchair. Jordan has shown that if you see a distant window of opportunity you should get as close to that window as you can, for that is where you can see the big picture.
I broke my neck in 2014 – severed C5 in my cervical spine. I underwent a number of tests including a nerve conductivity test, which indicated that I would be a quadriplegic. I was referred to the FTM program where Stuart immediately identified that there was in fact some neural capacity present.
I have never given up, I just needed some help to get started.
They implemented a bio sequential feedback program, which activates neural pathways and as a result of this I have gone from barely being able to move my fingers to gripping weighted objects above my head. I can now propel myself in my wheelchair and more recently that focus has shifted to my leg muscle groups.
I am now able to extend and contract my legs and more recently I have been learning to pedal a stationary exercise bike. I have learnt that everyone needs to keep moving both physically and mentally to stay motivated. I have never given up, I just needed some help to get started.
